Harmful Chemicals in your Cosmetics?

Next time you slather on your favourite moisturizer think twice?
A report from Que Choisir, a french language nonprofit consumer organization reveals that some cosmetic companies still pump their product with harmful substances.
A US researchers report showed that  1 in 8 of 82,000 ingredients used in personal care products are industrial chemicals, including, carcinogens, pesticides, reproductive toxins and hormone disruptor's. Many products include plasticizers (chemicals to keep concrete soft) and degreasers (used to get grime off auto parts).

Pretty Scary!

Dangerous chemical that are common in our everyday cosmetics consist of:
Phthalates - used as a softener in plastic products and an additive in cosmetics like nail polish, moisturizer and fragrance. Health Hazards: Considered hazardous waste and are regulated as pollutants in air and water is banned in Europe and linked to a number of health problems. Linked to a number of reproductive problems in men and women.

Triclosan - used in antibacterial soaps and hand sanitizer, toothpastes, deodorants, face and body washes and even acne treatments. Health Hazards: Has been proved to accumulate in human and animal bodies and over time is linked to thyroid disruption and other critical hormonal systems.

Parabens - widely used as a preservative in all sorts of body care products and cosmetics to prevent growth of bacteria and mold. Health Hazards: Laboratory studies show that parabens mimic the hormone estrogen in the body and in a 2004 study parabens were found in the breast cancer tumor of 19-20women examined.

Formaldehyde - Eyelash glue, nail polish and hair gel, these are just a few ways that we are exposed to this toxic ingredient. Health Hazards: Shown to cause allergic skin reactions and rashes in some people and also a probable carcinogen.

I say if you can pronounce the ingredient then its probably bad.
Go organic as much as possible there are so many cosmetic companies that you can choose from.

Thank goodness for this new school of trend. As much as I love sky high heels my feet just don't for more that 3 hours. It looks like these petite heels are out to perform their sky high couterparts. Whether its a wedge, block heel, petite stiletto or kitten heel these new babes deserve a spot in your wardrobe.
